Elegance in Every Curve: Inside Beaumont & Fletcher’s Iconic Tub Chair

There’s something inherently graceful and comforting about the shape of a tub chair, the way its gently curved back and arms wrap around you, offering an intimate, cocoon‑like seat. At Beaumont & Fletcher, the Tub Chair brings together classic form and luxurious materials with artisan craftsmanship, making it as decorative as it is comfortable.

Design & Form

The design emphasises soft curves and a supportive profile, with a slightly lower back that flows into the arms, lending it a compact yet enveloping silhouette.

All our armchairs are made to order to create truly bespoke pieces tailored to the client. You can choose your preferred fabric, finishes, and legs.

It can also be paired with a handmade footstool to complete the seating set.

Materials & Construction

True to our philosophy, the Tub Chair is handcrafted in England, built on a seasoned beech frame with legs integral to the frame.

The upholstery is traditionally constructed, layered with cotton, lambswool, and horsehair, and finished with feather‑and‑down cushions for comfort.

These materials not only enhance comfort but contribute to longevity and the rich tactile feel that distinguishes handmade furniture.

Dimensions & Customisation

The Tub Chair measures approximately 73 cm wide × 92 cm high × 86 cm deep.

These dimensions make it compact enough for smaller rooms while still offering generous seating. Because of the handmade nature of the chair, these measurements are approximate and may vary slightly.

When ordering bespoke, customers can request changes to the shape, size, or details, and specify their own fabric (or choose from our extensive collection).

There’s also freedom in selecting wood finishes e.g. walnut, chestnut, mahogany, etc., leg styles (turned, tapered, etc.), and decorative elements like nailhead trims and castors.

Styling & Use

The Tub Chair is beautifully suited for intimate spaces, think a cosy reading nook, a bedroom corner, or beside a fireplace. Its rounded form softens straight lines in a room, and when upholstered in a striking fabric, it becomes a focal point in itself.

Because the chair is built for customisation, you can match (or contrast) it with your existing décor. For example, pairing a neutral tub chair with bold curtains or cushions can create balance. Alternatively, a richly textured (or embroidered) upholstery can make the chair stand out as a statement piece.

Considerations & Care

As with all high‑quality upholstery, proper care will extend the life and beauty of your Tub Chair: vacuum gently, rotate cushions periodically, protect from strong sunlight or heat, and treat stains carefully.
