FAQ's
  • What is Embroidered Fabric?

Embroidered fabric is fabric embellished with embroidery, either by hand or machine. At our studio, all embroidery is done purely by hand. We work with a wide range of techniques, including fine needlework using rayon, silk, or metallic threads; intricate beadwork with glass or bone beads; sequins; appliqué with fabric or leather; and embroidery enhanced with cords, padding, and dimensional detailing.

  • What makes Beaumont & Fletcher’s Embroidered Fabric unique?

Our Embroidered Fabrics are distinguished by exquisite craftsmanship, with each piece meticulously hand-stitched by skilled artisans using traditional techniques. Drawing inspiration from historical and natural motifs, the designs offer a unique blend of timeless elegance and originality. All embroideries are made to order and can be fully customized—whether by altering the background fabric, adjusting the scale or color of the embroidery, or adapting the techniques to suit the intended use or budget.

  • Can Embroidered Fabric be used for both upholstery and curtains?

Embroideries are suitable for curtains and soft furnishings such as cushions, headboards, bedspreads, and valances. However, some techniques are more delicate and best reserved for decorative or occasional-use pieces. The suitability of each embroidery depends on the materials and methods used. Our design team will guide you in selecting appropriate techniques for your project and can suggest alternatives to suit both function and budget. While certain embroidered fabrics are strong enough for light to moderate-use upholstery, others may not be suitable due to their fragile detailing.

  • What materials are used in Beaumont & Fletcher’s Embroidered Fabric?

We use a wide range of materials in our hand-embroidered designs to create rich texture and detail. These include silk, rayon, and metallic threads; clear, colored, or opaque glass beads in various shapes and sizes; and an extensive selection of sequins in different colors and finishes. Our appliqué work incorporates materials such as silk, velvet, and leather, applied either flat or ruched for added dimension. We also use padding to create depth, metallic thread structures for unique textures, and a diverse repertoire of hand embroidery stitches to bring each design to life.

  • How do I care for Embroidered Fabric?

Beaumont & Fletcher’s unique hand embroidered fabrics are created using the finest materials – silks, velvets, taffetas, freshwater pearls and crystals and gold and silver thread, and they need to be handled more delicately than more robust factory-made fabrics. But with common sense and a little care and attention these beautiful textiles should last for generations.

One of the greatest threats to all textiles, especially natural fibres, is light. Ultraviolet radiation from natural daylight and from fluorescent light, causes textile dyes to fade, and particularly in the case of fabrics containing silk, makes the fibres brittle and fragile. The use of blinds, particularly on sunny days, will reduce these risks substantially, and most modern windows are glazed with treated glass that substantially reduces UV penetration.

High temperatures and excessive humidity are also potentially harmful to all fabrics.
In the case of accidental water damage the fabric should be dried with a fan; if a water mark remains, or any other accidental staining occurs, a specialist cleaner should be consulted. Before dry-cleaning any embroidered fabric consult a specialist cleaner to discuss suitability of process.

Avoid allowing the embroidered face of the fabric to rub against itself; the threads may catch and pull. In the event of an accidentally pulled yarn, using fine pointed scissors snip off the damaged thread as close to the base cloth as possible without damaging or cutting other fibres.

Airborne dirt and dust are probably the greatest everyday threats to fine handmade fabrics, just as they are to valuable antique textiles.
Gentle vacuuming a couple of times a year, will extend the life of the fabrics. A low-power hand-held vacuum-cleaner is the ideal tool for the task. Ideally this should be used in conjunction with a fine mesh net over the nozzle, to ensure that the delicate embroidery is not pulled or damaged.
Vacuum carefully, working in the direction of the nap when cleaning velvets, and taking care that the net and nozzle do not catch on metal threads, stones, or embroidery.

When handling fine fabrics, care must always be taken to ensure that hands are completely clean and free from any contamination, dirt, acids, or perspiration. With sensible care, following these guidelines, Beaumont & Fletcher’s beautiful hand embroidered fabrics will last many years of everyday use.

  • Can I request samples of Embroidered Fabric?

Yes, samples of our Embroidered Fabric can be requested through our showroom or website. This allows clients to view texture, colour, and embroidery detail before making a final selection.

We have a vast library of samples available for loan. We can send either a single sample or a curated selection to showcase different designs and colour options. As our samples are valuable, we may request a fully refundable deposit, which will be returned once the samples are safely returned.
We can also create bespoke samples on request, tailored to your specifications.

Once you place an order, we will produce a final sample for your approval. This will be made on the selected background fabric and in the desired colours and techniques, ensuring complete confidence before production begins.
